Marine Ecology of Southern Florida

TLC Learning Consultants is offering a Marine Ecology of Southern Florida (MESF) workshop. Join us on this exciting and intense six day adventure focusing on the biology, ecology, geology, geophysics, and earth systems of the Everglades and the Florida Keys .  Participants will experience first hand, the beauty and diversity of Southern Florida while learning how to best share their adventure with students. 

Dates:  June 24-29, 2007

Cost:  $650

Everglades Ecology

• Mangrove Swamps

• Coral Reef Health

Florida Bay

• GPS Orienteering

• Data collection and analysis

John Carroll University Visiting Faculty in Earth Science / Education

Candidates sought for a one-year Visiting Faculty Position beginning in Fall 2007 to teach in a developing Master of Arts in Integrated Science for Teachers program. The position may be renewed, depending on the success of the program. The successful candidate will be committed to improving science education in grades K-12. Duties will include developing and implementing inquiry based courses designed to increase the content knowledge and pedagogical skills of middle school science teachers. The primary responsibility will be Earth Science courses, both graduate courses for the Masters program and undergraduate courses. Individuals with an interdisciplinary background who also could contribute to the areas of Astronomy, Geology and Physical Science are encouraged to apply.   The Ph.D. in Earth Science, Geology, Physics or related field is preferred.

The Master of Arts in Integrated Science for Teachers program was initially developed as part of the NSF funded Math Science Partnership with the Cleveland Municipal School District . Information about the program can be found at http://www.jcu.edu/physics/openings.htm

Applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching experience and interests, copies of graduate and undergraduate transcripts, and three letters of recommendation to Mr. Michael Kimmel, Chair of the Visiting Faculty in Natural Science Search Committee, Chemistry Department, 20700 North Park Boulevard , University Heights , OH 44118 . Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
